  • What is Membership Medicine?
    Membership medicine, sometimes referred to as “Concierge” medicine or “Direct Primary Care”, is a model that emphasizes wellness, disease prevention and personalized care. We are not dependent on insurance reimbursement so we can take all the time we need and address all your health needs and questions. Since we charge a flat annual fee, we manage fewer patients, and provide you with convenient, personalized and preventive care when you need it.   • Will I still benefit from membership even if I don’t expect to need frequent medical attention?
    Absolutely. I believe patients would see and communicate with their doctor more often if it was easy and convenient, and if they knew their doctor had a personal interest in keeping them healthy. I make it easy for my patients to communicate with me via a phone call, message, telehealth, or in the office. Besides acute care and managing illness, our focus is on adopting healthy lifestyle habits. We want to identify risk factors early to prevent disease progression, concentrating our efforts on your lifetime health and wellness, not just the next 5-10 years. Together, we will create a personalized plan to achieve and maintain your optimal health. Because we have more time together, I can get to know how your life, work and family situations may be affecting your health – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Advanced diagnostic tests can help us identify risk factors and health issues before they cause disease, saving you money, time, suffering and higher costs in the long run.   • How does our practice differ from the typical traditional practice?
    This is a membership practice with limited patient numbers. You will experience the difference immediately. I aim to know my patients very well so I can take a more proactive role in your health and be there when you need me. My office been designed to create a relaxing and comfortable experience for you, with little, if any, wait time. I will take the time to address your health concerns and questions, and your visits with me will not feel rushed. My goal is to provide you with an experience that will not just meet, but exceed, your expectations for a doctor’s office, and to always be open to your suggestions for improvement.   • What does membership include?
    Your membership includes an annual comprehensive physical exam that is in addition to insurance-covered or Medicare-covered annual wellness visits. It can incorporate comprehensive health metrics and focuses on lifestyle interventions in addition to medications. We will also determine a personalized schedule for regular follow up throughout the year to make sure we are monitoring and addressing your health risks and keeping you on track to meet your health goals. This results in a far more connected version of primary care and guides you to achieving and maintaining more optimum health and disease prevention. We provide a great amount of care by phone, email and text, including virtual visits when appropriate. We are available to discuss urgent concerns evenings and weekends when needed. We have created a practice where you can reach us when you need us, without having to jump through any hoops. You will reach the doctor directly. You will enjoy greater convenience and peace of mind.   • Who does this membership plan work best for?
    People of all ages can benefit from the services we offer. It works especially well for: • Patients desiring easy and direct communication with their doctor. • Patients who are too busy to spend time calling their doctor’s office, waiting on hold, leaving messages, or waiting in a doctor’s office to be seen. • Patients who desire more comprehensive and preventive care, including executive physical type services. • Patients who have unexplained symptoms and need an experienced doctor to address the underlying cause of illness, not to just treat the symptoms. • Those who want to be more aware of potential health risks that could be hidden in their health habits, lab results, family history or genetic predispositions. • Patients who want a physician grounded in traditional training but open-minded to non-traditional approaches (such as functional medicine, meditation, specific exercise recommendations, sleep optimization, etc). • Those with high insurance premiums, high-deductible health plans or no insurance. • Those who wish to privatize their medical care as much as possible.   • What if I need urgent care?
    If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911 or go to the ER immediately. You can contact me first with any concerns. Often, I can diagnose and treat your need without a visit to the ER. In fact, membership medicine has been shown to result in many fewer ER and urgent care visits because we can discuss your medical needs when you need to.   • What if I need medical attention or need to contact you while I’m away from home?
    You can speak with me from wherever you are in the world, and I will help with any medical conditions that can be handled via phone or video visit. If you have a condition that requires in-person evaluation and treatment, I will do what I can to direct you to appropriate nearby care, and coordinate follow-up when you return home. If you enroll a college student or one of your adult children, they can easily contact us by cell, text, email, or video. They will have their own trusted doctor who knows them well and can coordinate their care while away from home. We can handle most medical needs to help avoid a visit to another clinic or communicate directly with local healthcare providers if needed. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • What if I need specialty care?
    As an experienced board-certified internal medicine physician with greater availability to you, I can handle many complex healthcare needs. However, if specialist care is appropriate or required, I will help expedite an appointment, and consult with the specialist before your appointment if possible. After your specialist visit, we will follow up to discuss any of your questions or concerns and arrange additional testing and management if needed. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • What happens if I’m admitted to the emergency room or hospital?
    This can be a stressful and often confusing experience for patients and their families. You will be cared for by the emergency room physician and/or hospitalist team. My job as your primary care physician is to make sure the treating medical team has all the history and health data they need to provide optimal care, and make sure the problems that led to the hospital visit are addressed as quickly and effectively as possible. As your health care advocate, I will communicate directly with you and your loved ones, and help you navigate the health care system. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • What if my doctor is on vacation or out of town?
    As a member of my practice, you are never alone. Even when I am attending a conference or on vacation, I will still be available by phone for your urgent needs and telehealth visits. You will be notified by message or email before I leave town for more than a day. If I am not available or if I will be unreachable, I will have another trusted physician available to assist you for any urgent matters or to be seen in the office. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Do you make home visits or nursing home visits?
    I appreciate that it can be logistically difficult to get to the doctor’s office in certain situations. I will see a limited number of patients in their home or nursing facility when medically appropriate, on a case-by-case basis. Extensive travel time may incur a surcharge. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Can you see me if I have Medicare?
    Absolutely. I am a participating provider with Medicare and will bill Medicare on your behalf, as appropriate, and as required by law. Our practice can handle more complex medical issues that occur with age. We can spend the time necessary to incorporate your preferences and optimize chronic disease management. We can use medications as well as diet and lifestyle change as appropriate to achieve the best outcomes. Sometimes, with more advanced age, the right thing to do is to focus on quality of life by reducing medications and interventions. We can navigate this together. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Do I still need health insurance?
    YES! My medical practice is not a health insurance program. It is very important to maintain insurance (and/or Medicare) to cover outside testing and specialists, as well as expensive, unusual, and unpredictable events such as surgery, emergency care and hospitalization. By providing you with extraordinary and connected primary care, sometimes your plan use and total out of pocket expenses can be reduced. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Do you bill insurance plans? (for Non-Medicare patients)
    At this point I am not in-network with any insurance plans and I do not take insurance. Our practice is unencumbered by the constraints and limited reimbursement from insurance plans so that we may better serve and care for our patients. You will receive completely unbiased medical evaluation, recommendations and treatment. You only pay us the membership fee. There will be no charge for office visits or co-pays/deductibles. No hassles and no hidden charges. The membership fee allows us to keep our practice small, and work for you, our valued patient, not the insurance company.   • What if I have an HMO insurance plan?
    We are not in network and do not take insurance. You will need an in-network primary care provider of record to help officially facilitate your in-network care. If you join our practice, we can still provide you with all the services described but it will not involve your insurance company. In this situation we can help enhance your care through direct communication with your primary care provider and other specialists. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • How much is the membership fee?
    Membership fees can be paid either as $4800 annually or $1200 quarterly. We have reduced rates for couples and families, with a 10% discount ($4320 each) for up to 3 additional family members. Adults only (over 18). APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • What if I decide to leave the practice?
    You may cancel your membership any time after the first three months, with thirty days’ notice. If you prepaid your membership fee for the year you will be reimbursed for the remaining months. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Can we meet before joining?
    Yes, if you are not an established patient of mine, we can meet each other in-person or virtually to be sure our practice is a good fit for you. You may use our "Contact Us" Form to request a phone call or meeting. Please be patient, but feel free to contact us again if we do not get back to you within three days. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Can joining the practice save me money?
    Possibly. Some patients may have fewer out-of-pocket medical costs and fewer medical visits in general. We can better manage the risks of most of your health issues and concerns because of our smaller practice and more connected care model. In fact, studies show that membership medicine can lead to fewer ER and hospital visits, decreased need for specialist care, and decreased utilization of the health care system in general. In addition, the membership fee is designed to be eligible for HSA, FSA or HRA funds—please check with your tax advisor or plan administrator to confirm. For non-Medicare patients Many people with high deductible plans find they can reduce total out-of-pocket cost of medical care by combining a high deductible health plan with a membership practice. There are no hidden costs or bills that come to you after-the-fact from our office or insurance company. We provide a simple transparent fee structure. We may soon offer discounted cash-only labs and imaging at outside facilities to help you avoid delayed, surprise medical bills due to non-coverage or clerical error. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Do you offer gift memberships?
    Yes! Family members or friends may want to provide a loved one the gift of membership. It’s a great way to provide support and peace of mind and ensure personalized attention for their well-being. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • Is there a limit to how many patients can join the practice?
    Yes. One of the most important aspects of personalized medicine is limiting practice size to be able to devote more time and energy to each patient. Therefore, once we have reached our ideal practice size, we will establish a waiting list. APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP HERE
  • HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
    You can fill out application form online through the provided link below. Once your application is reviewed and approved, payment is processed, then you receive a welcome email with instructions on how the practice works and how to contact me directly. Please note that it can take several days for this process to complete, and we may need your assistance in obtaining medical records.
